Lectors/Lay Readers

The term lector is derived from the Latin word ‘legere,’ which means ‘to read.’  In the Episcopal church, we call our lectors ‘readers.’  The reader is responsible for reading aloud excerpts from the Old Testament and the Psalms during worship services.  Through these readings, lectors are sharing the word of God with parishioners.  This ministry is vital to worship and is a reverent undertaking.  Serving as a lector not only provides a portal for God’s word, but it also enhances the spiritual growth of both the listener and the reader.

If you are interested in serving as a Lector/Lay Reader, please contact the parish administrator or call 301-865-3270.
