The long green season of Ordinary Time — those weeks stretching from Pentecost through the autumn — can feel, on the surface, like a quiet stretch after the heights of Easter and Pentecost. But the Church has always understood this season not as a pause but as a time for learning. These are the weeks when the Spirit, poured out upon the whole people of God at Pentecost, goes about the patient, unglamorous, and utterly essential work of faith formation. The Spirit does not only descend in tongues of fire; it also moves in the ordinary rhythms of prayer, conversation, forgiveness, and service — teaching us, as Jesus promised, all things, and guiding us into truth—one ordinary day at a time.
